At Children's Cancer Hospital Foundation 57357, I developed a REST API for an internal tracking system used by more than 20 bioinformatics and genomics researchers.
The API organized each research project around its client, aims, sample count, organism, species, sample source, analysis platform, and requested bioinformatics analysis.
Researchers could update project status, exchange comments, upload sample spreadsheets and payment documents, deliver results reports, and collect feedback. Authentication, resource authorization, administrator privileges, and email-based password recovery supported the workflow.
The system supported genome-analysis and research workflows and contributed to a reported 54% reduction in laboratory inquiry response time. It gave me direct experience building software around the day-to-day work of a biomedical research laboratory.
